Home Care After Implants
It is important to not disturb the wound after the surgery because the wound is delicate. We recommend you avoid spitting, rinsing, and touching the treated area. Minor bleeding is normal following the surgery for up to 24 hours. If there is excessive bleeding, it can be controlled by placing moist gauze over the treated site for you to bite on for 30 to 45 minutes. This should help ease the bleeding but if the heavy bleeding continues please contact us. Swelling is normal after surgery, we recommend ice packs to help the swelling for a couple of hours following your surgery (15 minutes on and 15 minutes off). After any surgery, it is important to drink lots of fluids! We recommend you avoid hot foods and drinks. We also recommend soft foods on the day of the surgery. It is important you follow our directions regarding your prescribed medication. If your medication runs out minor pain can be medicated with mild over-the-counter painkillers such as ibuprofen. If your pain is severe please contact us. We also recommend you never take medication on an empty stomach. Your oral health is a vital part of the healing process so please pay close attention to your routine brushing and flossing. It is also important you use the Peridex Oral rinse the night of your surgery and twice a day following the surgery (rinse for at least 30 seconds). We also recommend rinsing your mouth with warm water and salt 4 to 5 times a day. We also recommend you avoid excessive exercise.
