Tooth Extraction
Home Care After Tooth Extraction
After a tooth extraction it is important to understand that stiffness, swelling, soreness and even bleeding is common. The prescribed medication should be taken as prescribed and monitored. After the surgery we will place a moist gauze over the treated site for you to bite on for 30 to 45 minutes. This should help ease the bleeding but if the heavy bleeding continues replace the gauze and continue biting down for another 30 to 45 minutes (repeat as long as necessary). We also recommend ice packs to help the swelling for a couple hours following your surgery (15 minutes on and 15 minutes off). We also recommend you elevate your head higher than usual when you sleep for 48 hours after your surgery. We also strongly recommend you do not smoke. In addition it would be wise to not spit out, use straws and drink carbonated drinks.
